Microscanning
Increase spatial and / or color resolution
Thoroughly adjusted Piezo elements allow shifting the image senor of a ProgRes® MFscan, ProgRes® CFscan and a ProgRes® C14plus in pixel and sub-pixel steps.
Color-Co-Site Sampling
Color-Co-Site Sampling goes beyond what conventional cameras do. It simply gathers more relevant information from the specimen being observed.
Color-Co-Site Sampling helps to resolve finest structures (increase of spatial resolution) and even measures the full true (real) color information of the specimen.
1-shot – Interpolation
Based on the Bayer pattern each pixel is only able to detect one color – Red, Green or Blue. Performing a 1-shot for a green pixel the missing red and blue color values are being interpolated on the basis of the values of the adjacent pixels.
Unwanted side-effect artefacts such as color moiré or false coloured pixels near edges or in fine image details can occur. To avoid this, Color-Co-Site Sampling, which is a key feature of the ProgRes® C14plus, needs to be applied.
4-shot for true color reproduction
By means of the Piezo elements the sensor is being shifted in one pixel steps. In the course of this pattern each RGB value is being measure – no interpolation is needed!
So the key benefit of the 4-shot mode is that the sharpness of the image is identical in all three color channels after the four single exposures are being combined to a final image.
The spatial resolution is not being increased in this mode but no color artefacts or aliasing will occur and the color resolution is optimized. Though the color is reproducible!
16-shot & 36-shot for true color reproduction & highest resolution
By means of the Piezo elements the sensor is now being shifted in sub-pixel steps. In the course of this pattern each RGB value is being measure – no interpolation is needed!
Additionally more color and detail information from between the pixels is being captured. Please note that the pixels on a CCD are dived by gaps. So information which is located in such a gap will not be detected using the 1-shot mode.
So the key benefit of the 16-shot mode as well as the 36-shot mode is that the sharpness of the image is identical in all three color channels after the single exposures are being combined to a final image.
And the final image resolution can be increased:
- 16-shot: 2720 x 2048 pixel.
- 36-shot: 4080 x 3072 pixel.
Sensor description used in ProgRes® MF & CF series and C14plus
The ICX285AQ (color) / ICX285AQ (monochrome) is a diagonal 11mm (Type 2/3) interline CCD solid-state image sensor with a square pixel array.
High sensitivity and low smear are achieved through the adoption of EXview HAD CCD technology. Progressive scan allows all pixels signals to be output independently within approximately 1/15 second. Also, the adoption of high frame rate readout mode supports 60 frames per second. This chip features an electronic shutter with variable charge-storage time which makes it possible to realize full-frame still images without a mechanical shutter. High resolution and high color reproductively are achieved through the use of R, G, B primary color mosaic filters. This chip is suitable for image input applications such as still cameras which require high resolution, etc.
Sensor features used in ProgRes® MF & CF series and C14plus
- Progressive scan allows individual readout of the image signals from all pixels.
- High horizontal and vertical resolution (both approximately 800 TV-lines) still images without a mechanical shutter
- Supports high frame rate readout mode (effective 256 lines output, 60 frames/s)
- Square pixel
- Aspect ratio: 4:3
- Horizontal drive frequency: 28.64MHz
- R, G, B primary color mosaic filters on chip
- High sensitivity, low smear
- Low dark current, excellent anti-blooming characteristics
- Continuous variable-speed shutter function
- Horizontal register: 5.0V drive
Sensor description used in ProgRes® MS & CS
The ICX415AL is a diagonal 8mm (Type 1/2) interline CCD solid-state image sensor with a square pixel array suitable for CCIR black-and-white cameras.

This chip features an electronic shutter with variable charge-storage time which makes it possible to realize full-frame still images without a mechanical shutter. Square pixel makes this device suitable for image input and processing applications. High sensitivity and low dark current are achieved through the adoption of the HAD (Hole-Accumulation Diode) sensors. This chip is suitable for applications such as FA and surveillance cameras.
Sensor features used in ProgRes® MS & CS
- Progressive scan allows individual readout of the image signals from all pixels
- High vertical resolution (580 TV-lines) still images without a mechanical shutter
- Square pixel
- Horizontal drive frequency: 29.5MHz (Max.)
- No voltage adjustments (reset gate and substrate bias are not adjusted)
- High resolution, high sensitivity, low dark current
- Continuous variable-speed shutter
- Low smear
- Excellent anti-blooming characteristics
